Situated on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island and nestled among towering mountains, Zeballos sits at the head of Zeballos Inlet, the gateway to Nootka Sound. Located on the territory of the Ehattesaht Chinehkint First Nation, the area is famous for its gold mining history and is increasingly becoming a destination for travellers who are looking for the excitement of wilderness recreation activities.
Reporting to Mayor and Council, the CAO will have a solid background in local government administration and finance with at least three years’ municipal experience at a senior level. The successful applicant will also hold the statutory positions of Chief Financial Officer, Corporate Officer, and Approving Officer. Additionally, the CAO serves as the Cemetery Manager, and performs all duties related to Human Resources.
The CAO is responsible for the general management of all municipal operations and staff. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in providing solid information and advice to elected officials, staff, partners and stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, and computer skills are essential. A working knowledge of Public Works would be considered an asset.

  • Post-secondary education in public administration or a related discipline from a recognized institution or a senior executive certificate in Local Government Management in British Columbia.
  • A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in local government management.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and local government best practices.
  • An ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful relationships with diverse groups including elected officials, staff, external organizations, and members of the public.
  • Excellent and effective communication skills in managing human resource matters.
  • Knowledge of community development and project management processes.
