North Salt Spring Waterworks District is seeking a new District Manager.
Located in the beautiful Southern Gulf Islands, Salt Spring Island is a vibrant, active rural community and a great place to live. Surrounded by the Salish Sea, the area offers a year-round mild climate with a broad selection of pursuits for the outdoor enthusiast. Amenities and services include excellent elementary and secondary schools, a hospital, library, renowned arts and culinary options, and health and wellness retreats. Greater Victoria and the Cowichan Valley are both just a short ferry ride away.
The mission of the NSSWD is “to provide potable water within the NSSWD boundaries in an efficient and sustainable manner.” This encompasses residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional users or approximately 5,500 people within the District boundaries. The NSSWD also operates six other regional district and improvement district water systems under contract.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the District Manager is accountable for creating a high performance, service oriented organization that makes a difference in the district and the wider community. They pay attention to shifts and trends in an ever-changing and complex environment and think strategically to serve residents, businesses and the local community today while developing a sustainable organization for the future.
To succeed in this position, you must have:
  • Post-secondary education in Local Government Administration, Civil or Environmental Engineering and / or Business Administration; and ten (10) years of on-the-job leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal frequently with sensitive situations involving the exercise of utmost tact, discretion, and judgement.
  • Exceptional motivation, team building, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated senior experience and/or knowledge of a water treatment / distribution systems.
  • Operational knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations and the ability to plan and coordinate projects to ensure the safety of employees, contractors, consultants and the public.
  • Project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects, both small and large, with diverse objectives and deadlines.
  • A valid BC Driver's License.
