We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated and seasoned HR generalist to join our HR team. You will work in collaboration with department managers, staff and union representatives to provide strategic, tactical and operational HR support to the various departments within the City on a variety of organizational and change management issues including organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, succession planning, coaching and mentoring of staff, contract administration, recruitment, and conflict resolution.
In this role you will require broad generalist expertise in the full range of employment matters including: recruitment and employee retention; benefits; compensation; job evaluation; attendance management, disability management; performance management; policy development; training; health and safety; and employee engagement/wellness initiatives. Strong labour relations expertise will also be required for: participation in negotiations, grievance and tribunal processes; issue investigation and facilitation; research; policy development and interpretation of collective agreements, employment terms and conditions, and relevant legislation.
This position requires an individual with a strong work ethic who has demonstrated leadership skills, strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, superior communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple demands. In addition, you possess the diplomacy and tact required to deal effectively with a variety of stakeholders and an interest in continuing to build a positive working environment and promote a culture of high performance. You will have a degree in human resources, labour relations, business administration, law, or public administration complemented by a minimum of 5 to 7 years experience in progressive HR generalist roles within a unionized environment, with a focus on labour relations. A CPHR designation and municipal experience is an asset. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and a working knowledge of HCM/HRIS Systems and on-line Applicant Tracking Systems is required, along with a valid driver’s license.
