We are looking for a strategic, collaborative and results oriented Director to provide leadership to the Community and Partner Engagement Department that includes community consultation, economic prosperity, public realm activation and bylaw enforcement.  The Department has a staff of approximately 35 with a strong vision to:  shape and enliven the City’s public realm to achieve quality urban design, place-making, active use and community building through public participation in public spaces;  create strong economic development including the management of business licensing and related regulations to support the City’s business community;  build strong connections with the residential and business community, other agencies and levels of government;  support other departments in their efforts to engage with the public;  deliver, implement and support an integrated and complimentary approach to communication efforts for the City;  and create compliance with City regulations through bylaw enforcement as desired by City Council.  As Director, you will provide direction to the department to achieve this vision.  You will ensure your department works in an integrated and collaborative manner with other departments.  As a key member of the senior management team, you will contribute to the strategic direction and overall management and growth of the City. You will also respond to external challenges by seeking opportunities and developing strong and positive relationships with external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in Business, Communications or a related field, complimented by more than 10 years’ progressive related management and administrative experience within a municipal or regional government setting.  Comparable combinations of education and experience will also be considered.   A thorough knowledge of the applicable legislation, bylaws, regulations, rules and policies is required.  Experience is required dealing with the community and community engagement;  place-making and programming of public open spaces;  economic development;  developing positive relationships and partnerships with a wide variety of political, community and business stakeholder groups;  communications and bylaw enforcement matters.  The ideal candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively with others to optimize outcomes through excellent negotiation and verbal and written communication skills. A valid class 5 driver’s license is also required.
